Plumber's Helper (Residential) – Entry Level

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a shopping centre renovation in Paarl. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a shopping centre renovation in Paarl. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Grade 8 or higher
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan

• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
