Job Description

This private hospital maintenance department in Kimberley needs a plumber who arrives on time, fixes it properly and leaves the site clean. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll be based at a private hospital maintenance department in Kimberley. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

  • Clear blocked drains with a rodding machine and inspect lines with a drain camera
  • Issue plumbing Certificates of Compliance for completed installations
  • Replace burst geysers and fit vacuum breakers, drip trays and pressure control valves to SANS 10254
  • Install and repair soil and waste pipes to SANS 10400 Part P
  • Service booster pumps, pressure tanks and water storage tanks
  • Order fittings from the supplier and keep the van stocked
  • Fit toilets, basins, showers and mixers to the client's chosen finishes

You'll need

  • Fit enough to lift a 150-litre geyser with a helper and work in tight roof spaces
  • Plumbing trade test certificate or an Occupational Certificate: Plumber (NQF 4)
  • PIRB registration as a Licensed Plumber, so you can issue plumbing CoCs
  • Able to talk politely to home owners about damage and costs
  • At least 3 years as a qualified plumber, including geyser replacements

Helpful, not essential

  • Heat pump and solar geyser installation experience
  • Drain camera and high-pressure jetting experience

What you get

  • Paid PIRB renewal fee
  • Call-out bonus for every after-hours job you complete
  • Cellphone allowance for job updates and photos

How to apply

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: a CV with two contactable references from plumbing employers, plumbing trade test or occupational certificate plus ID copy, certified within the last three months.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 9 working days, usually by phone.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Kimberley.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Do not list every plumbing task you have ever done. Focus on geysers, drainage and CoCs, which is what these jobs pay for.
  • Mention how many geyser replacements you do in a normal month. It is the number most plumbing managers ask about.
