Production Assistant (Chemical Blending)

Machines set the pace at this plastic moulding plant in Soweto; you keep up and catch the faults. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll be based at a plastic moulding plant in Soweto. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Feed raw material or empty packaging into the machine at the start of the line
• Clean down machines and floors at the end of each run
• Record batch codes and counts on the hourly production sheet
• Stop the line with the emergency stop if anything jams or looks unsafe
• Follow lock-out procedures when helping with cleaning inside machines
• Check product for size, weight and seal faults and pull out rejects
• Weigh ingredients or additives against the recipe card

• No problem wearing full PPE, including ear protection
• You follow hygiene rules without being reminded
• Able to stand for a full shift in a noisy, warm area
• Available for rotating day and night shifts
• Neat, reliable and on time for shift start

• A food handler or basic HACCP awareness certificate
• NQF Level 2 manufacturing learnership completed

• Staff shop with discounted factory products
• Company transport on some night shifts
• Path to machine operator after six months
• Free PPE, overalls and hairnets

• Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
• Mention that you can work rotating shifts right at the top. It is the first thing most factories filter on.
