Professional Nurse (Maternity and Labour Ward) – Fixed-Term

This is a registered nursing post at a private maternity unit in Bloemfontein, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll be based at a private maternity unit in Bloemfontein. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders

• Clean criminal record
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts

• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work
• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery

• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training

• List your speciality skills in plain words, such as "ventilated patients" or "normal deliveries", instead of just the ward name.
• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
