Job Description

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a private maternity unit in Newcastle that needs a steady pair of hands. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The site is in Newcastle; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What your day looks like

  • Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
  • Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
  • Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
  • Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
  • Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
  • Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
  • Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients

What you need

  • At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
  • Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
  • Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
  • Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
  • Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

Helpful, not essential

  • Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
  • Unit manager or shift leader experience

On offer

  • Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
  • Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
  • Study support for post-basic specialities
