Professional Nurse (Maternity and Labour Ward) – Permanent

This is a registered nursing post at a provincial district hospital in Pretoria East, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

The site is in Pretoria East; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families

• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Clean criminal record

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work

• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
