Job Description

Patients in this provincial district hospital in Soweto count on your clinical judgement every single shift. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll be based at a provincial district hospital in Soweto. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

The work, day to day

  • Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
  • Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
  • Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
  • Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
  • Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
  • Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
  • Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls

What you need

  • Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
  • Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
  • You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Clean criminal record
  • Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
  • Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route

Extra points for

  • Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
  • Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery

What you get

  • Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
  • Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
  • Study support for post-basic specialities
  • Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training

How to apply for this job

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): certified copy of your SANC registration and current annual practising certificate, current BLS or ACLS card plus contact details for a ward or unit manager who supervised you.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 5 working days.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Put your SANC number and the units you've worked in at the very top of your CV; recruiters filter on these first.
  • List your speciality skills in plain words, such as "ventilated patients" or "normal deliveries", instead of just the ward name.
