Job Description

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a private maternity unit in Springs that needs a steady pair of hands. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

The site is in Springs; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

What your day looks like

  • Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
  • Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
  • Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
  • Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
  • Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
  • Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls

What you need

  • At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
  • Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
  • You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
  • Clean criminal record
  • Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

Nice if you have

  • Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
  • Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery
  • Unit manager or shift leader experience

What's in it for you

  • Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
  • Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
  • Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
  • Study support for post-basic specialities

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Springs really suit you before you apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): certified copy of your SANC registration and current annual practising certificate, proof of completed community service plus current BLS or ACLS card.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 10 working days, usually by phone.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
  • Put your SANC number and the units you've worked in at the very top of your CV; recruiters filter on these first.
