Professional Nurse (Medical Ward) – Fixed-Term

This is a registered nursing post at a community day clinic in Johannesburg CBD, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Johannesburg CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a community day clinic. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register

• Clean criminal record
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Unit manager or shift leader experience

• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Study support for post-basic specialities

• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
