Professional Nurse (Theatre) – Experienced

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a private maternity unit in Bellville, from admission to discharge. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is in Bellville (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls

• Clean criminal record
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Unit manager or shift leader experience

• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation

• List your speciality skills in plain words, such as "ventilated patients" or "normal deliveries", instead of just the ward name.
