Professional Nurse (Theatre)

This is a registered nursing post at a provincial district hospital in Durban Central, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The work is in Durban Central, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families

• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
