Pruning and Thinning Crew Worker

Timber keeps rural towns working, and a fire protection association near Komani is hiring crews. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll report in Komani. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks

• Available for early starts and fire-season standby
• Valid ID
• Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Crew transport to plantations
• Fire-season standby allowance

• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
