Job Description

Hard, outdoor work on an eucalyptus plantation near Tzaneen, with training on chainsaws and fire safety. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

Home base is an eucalyptus plantation on the Tzaneen side of Limpopo. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

The work, day to day

Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders

What you need

Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Willing to work in remote areas
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Valid ID

Nice if you have

Previous plantation or sawmill experience
First-aid training
