Quality Sorter (Packaging Factory)

You'll keep the line running at an industrial bakery in Umhlanga, feeding, checking and packing product all shift. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Location: Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Follow lock-out procedures when helping with cleaning inside machines
• Record batch codes and counts on the hourly production sheet
• Hand over at shift change with notes on rejects and stoppages
• Help the machine operator clear jams and reload hoppers
• Wear hairnets, beard covers and gloves in food-safe zones

• You follow hygiene rules without being reminded
• Medically fit; some food plants ask for a medical check
• No problem wearing full PPE, including ear protection
• Basic reading and counting for batch sheets
• Available for rotating day and night shifts

• Some basic first-aid training
• Experience assisting on a packaging or filling machine
• A food handler or basic HACCP awareness certificate

• Staff shop with discounted factory products
• Company transport on some night shifts
• Path to machine operator after six months

• Mention that you can work rotating shifts right at the top. It is the first thing most factories filter on.
• Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
