Quantity Surveyor (Building Contractor)

Make sure every rand on site is counted, claimed and certified for the civils and earthworks contractor in Mogwase. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll report in Mogwase. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Update cash flow forecasts for the project manager
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Value variations and prepare claims under JBCC or GCC conditions

• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Code 08 licence for site visits
• Understanding of JBCC Principal Building Agreement clauses
• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify

• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying
• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard
• Estimating software experience on top of Excel

• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses
• Hybrid days in the office and on site
• Study support for an honours degree
• Travel allowance for site visits

• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
