Quantity Surveyor (Building Contractor)

Make sure every rand on site is counted, claimed and certified for the shopfitting company in Soweto. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a shopfitting company on the Soweto side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Get quotes from subcontractors and compare them line by line
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Price tenders using supplier quotes, labour rates and plant costs
• Update cash flow forecasts for the project manager

• Code 08 licence for site visits
• BSc, BTech or Diploma in Quantity Surveying
• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify

• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying
• SACQSP registration as a Professional or Candidate QS
• Estimating software experience on top of Excel

• Travel allowance for site visits
• Study support for an honours degree
• Hybrid days in the office and on site
• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses

• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
