Registered Nurse (Emergency Unit) – Experienced

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a private hospital surgical ward in Alberton, from admission to discharge. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The work is in Alberton, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records

• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience

• Unit manager or shift leader experience
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work

• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
