Registered Nurse (Emergency Unit)

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a mine health centre in Kathu that needs a steady pair of hands. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is Kathu-based, with most of your time spent at a mine health centre. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
• Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day

• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Clean criminal record

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work

• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training

• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
