Registered Nurse (Night Duty)

Bring your SANC registration and your ward experience to a step-down and sub-acute facility in East London that needs a steady pair of hands. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is East London-based, with most of your time spent at a step-down and sub-acute facility. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders

• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Clean criminal record
• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays

• Unit manager or shift leader experience
• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery

• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation

• List your speciality skills in plain words, such as "ventilated patients" or "normal deliveries", instead of just the ward name.
• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
