Job Description

Patients in this private hospital surgical ward in Prospecton count on your clinical judgement every single shift. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

Home base is a private hospital surgical ward on the Prospecton side of KwaZulu-Natal.

What you'll actually do

Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol

Must-haves

Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
At least 1 year of post-community-service ward experience
Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route

Helpful, not essential

Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery
Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
