Job Description

You'll design, protect and maintain electrical systems for the solar and battery project developer in Pietermaritzburg. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Location: Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

The work, day to day

Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
Keep single line diagrams and as-built drawings up to date
Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2

Must-haves

At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations

Nice if you have

Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
PLC programming certification
Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
