Job Description

This structural design practice in Polokwane needs someone who can check a design and then go and check it was built right. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

The work is in Polokwane, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

What you'll actually do

Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
Write design reports and handover documents
Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
Design water pipelines, sewers and stormwater systems with hydraulic software
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
Review geotechnical reports and choose suitable foundations

You'll need

Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software

Nice if you have

Registration with SAICE and active CPD
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
Contract management training for NEC or GCC
