Job Description

Guests at this hotel restaurant in Pinetown come back for the people, and you'll be one of the reasons. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Location: Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

The work, day to day

Set tables, polish cutlery and glasses, and check condiments before doors open.
Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.
Take orders on the POS tablet and read them back to avoid kitchen mistakes.
Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.
Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
Check back two minutes after mains land and fix problems on the spot.

What you need

Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays
Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
Quick with basic maths and card machines
You can stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift

Extra points for

Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans
