Rigger (Shaft & Headgear)

Planned maintenance, breakdowns and shutdowns: steady artisan work at the platinum mine engineering department near Tembisa. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The work is in Tembisa, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Complete job cards and work orders in SAP after each task
• Carry out planned maintenance on loaders, drill rigs and utility vehicles
• Order spares and track them through the engineering store
• Fault-find hydraulic, electrical and engine faults on trackless machines
• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface
• Take part in weekend shutdowns for major overhauls
• Guide and teach an artisan assistant on the job

• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan, preferably on a mine
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• Willing to do standby and call-outs on a roster

• Flameproof equipment training for coal mines
• Government Certificate of Competency studies in progress
• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM

• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay
• Housing support in the mining town
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• Mention underground or flameproof experience clearly. It separates mine-ready artisans from factory artisans.
