Roller Operator (Layerworks)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the road construction contractor in Midrand. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Home base is a road construction contractor on the Midrand side of Gauteng. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket

• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites

• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work
• Certificates on more than one machine type

• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
