Roller Operator (Layerworks)

Real machine hours on real projects, with the road construction contractor working in and around Roodepoort. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The site is in Roodepoort; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals

• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents

• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work
• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge

• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Refresher training on new machines

• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
