Job Description

Operators at this open-pit iron ore mine near Johannesburg CBD keep the ore moving from face to crusher. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Johannesburg CBD (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

What you'll actually do

Refuel and wash the machine at the end of your shift where required
Haul ore and waste on the haul road loop to the crusher or dump
Drill blast holes to the plan depth and angle marked by the survey team
Log loads, cycle times and machine hours on the onboard system or sheet
Report defects and lock out the machine for the maintenance crew
Respect the collision avoidance system warnings and park-up rules

What you need

At least 2 years operating the machine in a mining environment
Code 10 or Code 14 driver's licence
Able to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating day and night roster
Valid operator certificate for the specific machine, from an MQA-accredited provider
Certificate of fitness from a mine medical practitioner
Clear understanding of the TMM regulations under Chapter 8 of the MHSA regulations

Extra points for

Fatigue management or defensive driving training
Experience with ultra-class haul trucks

What you get

Company bus from nearby towns to the mine gate
Medical aid subsidy
Annual performance bonus

How to apply

Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): driver's licence copy (front and back), ID copy, certified and clear plus machine operator certificates.
Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 9 working days, usually by phone.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Johannesburg CBD.

Applying is free. Nobody from How2Apply will ever ask you to pay for anything to get this job.

How to stand out

Put your operator certificate expiry dates on the CV. Expired tickets are the top reason operators get filtered out.
Name the exact machine class and size you operated, like "100-ton rigid dump truck". Mines hire by machine.
