Roof Bolter Operator (Underground Coal)

Big machines, long shifts, good pay: the underground platinum mine using trackless mobile machinery near Potchefstroom needs qualified operators. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is in Potchefstroom (North West). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Respect the collision avoidance system warnings and park-up rules
• Refuel and wash the machine at the end of your shift where required
• Keep radio contact with the dispatch controller and follow the right-of-way rules
• Haul ore and waste on the haul road loop to the crusher or dump
• Report defects and lock out the machine for the maintenance crew
• Log loads, cycle times and machine hours on the onboard system or sheet
• Complete the pre-use inspection checklist for your trackless mobile machine

• Certificate of fitness from a mine medical practitioner
• Code 10 or Code 14 driver's licence
• Able to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating day and night roster
• Clear understanding of the TMM regulations under Chapter 8 of the MHSA regulations

• Medical aid subsidy
• Shift allowance for night and weekend shifts
• Company bus from nearby towns to the mine gate

• Put your operator certificate expiry dates on the CV. Expired tickets are the top reason operators get filtered out.
• If you live near the mine, say so. Local applicants are often preferred under the Social and Labour Plan.
