Route Planner (Last-Mile Deliveries)

Trucks, drivers, loads and deadlines all meet on your screen at a bus and coach operator in George. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is in George (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Update customers on delivery times and delays
• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Plan daily loads to use full truck capacity
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Arrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles

• Good with Excel and email
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• Matric
• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• At least 2 years in transport or logistics

• Experience on a vehicle telematics platform
• Transport management system (TMS) experience

• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems
• Growth to transport manager
• Office-based work with a steady roster

• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
