Job Description

Zero harm needs people who go into the workings. This deep-level platinum shaft near Benoni needs you. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Location: Benoni, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

What you'll actually do

Take dust, noise and heat measurements with the occupational hygiene team
Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
Prepare for inspections by the mine inspector and follow up on instructions
Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards

What you need

Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations

Extra points for

Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council
Mine rescue training
Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health
