Safety Officer (Open Pit Operations) – Immediate Start

You'll make safety real on the ground at the mining contractor on a platinum lease near Kimberley, not just on paper. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Kimberley-based, with most of your time spent at a mining contractor on a platinum lease. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
• Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards
• Track safety statistics like LTIFR and report them each month
• Review baseline and issue-based risk assessments with section managers
• Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
• Take dust, noise and heat measurements with the occupational hygiene team
• Lead incident investigations using a root cause method

• Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations

• ISO 45001 auditing experience
• Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health
