Safety Officer (Open Pit Operations)

The mineral processing plant near Mokopane needs someone who knows the MHSA inside out and can coach crews. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is Mokopane-based, with most of your time spent at a mineral processing plant. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
• Track safety statistics like LTIFR and report them each month
• Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays
• Check that crews do planned task observations and pre-shift checks
• Lead incident investigations using a root cause method

• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
• Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine

• Mine rescue training
• ISO 45001 auditing experience

• Company vehicle on site
• CPD and further study funded
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs
• Retirement fund and medical aid

• Give numbers: how many investigations you led, or how the LTIFR changed in your section.
• Mention the commodity and whether you worked underground. Mines prefer someone who knows their hazards.
