Job Description

Hard, outdoor work on a sawmill near Brackenfell, with training on chainsaws and fire safety. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

Home base is a sawmill on the Brackenfell side of Western Cape. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What your day looks like

Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw

What you need

Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Valid ID

Nice if you have

First-aid training
Chainsaw operator certificate
Fire fighting training
