Sawmill General Worker

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a sawmill in the hills near Montague Gardens. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

The work is in Montague Gardens, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
• Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw

• Willing to work in remote areas
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Valid ID

• First-aid training
• Fire fighting training

• Fire-season standby allowance
• Crew transport to plantations
• Full safety gear provided

• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
