Seasonal Fruit Picker (Citrus Harvest)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a commercial seedling nursery near Tzaneen through the season. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Tzaneen (Limpopo). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown

• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Valid ID or work permit
• Available for the full harvest season
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Living on or near the farm

• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
