Section Miner (Chrome Mine)

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This mechanised hard-rock mine near Brits needs that person. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Location: Brits, North West. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows

• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act

• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• First aid certificate current

• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
