Section Miner (Chrome Mine)

You'll lead a crew safely through drilling, blasting and cleaning at the underground coal colliery near Centurion. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at an underground coal colliery in Centurion. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required

• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• First aid certificate current

• Housing or living-out allowance
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
