Section Miner (Chrome Mine) – Experienced

You'll lead a crew safely through drilling, blasting and cleaning at the mechanised hard-rock mine near Welkom. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a mechanised hard-rock mine on the Welkom side of Free State. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure

• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required

• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• First aid certificate current

• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Housing or living-out allowance

• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
