Senior Quantity Surveyor (Civil Projects)

Make sure every rand on site is counted, claimed and certified for the property development company in Kathu. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Kathu-based, with most of your time spent at a property development company.

• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities
• Track budget against actual cost and flag overruns early
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Value variations and prepare claims under JBCC or GCC conditions
• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Price tenders using supplier quotes, labour rates and plant costs

• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify

• Estimating software experience on top of Excel
• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard

• Hybrid days in the office and on site
• Travel allowance for site visits
• Study support for an honours degree

• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
