SHE Officer (Contract Mining) – Fixed-Term

The deep-level platinum shaft near Midrand needs someone who knows the MHSA inside out and can coach crews. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll be based at a deep-level platinum shaft in Midrand. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays
• Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
• Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
• Prepare for inspections by the mine inspector and follow up on instructions
• Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee

• At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
• Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations
• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
• Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property

• Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health
• Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council

• Company vehicle on site
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs
• Retirement fund and medical aid

• Mention the commodity and whether you worked underground. Mines prefer someone who knows their hazards.
• Show your mining sector safety experience clearly. Construction-only safety CVs are often moved to the no pile.
