Sheep Farm Hand (Shearing Season)

Animals do not take weekends off, and a sheep farm near Bloemfontein needs caring, reliable hands. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Bloemfontein-based, with most of your time spent at a sheep farm. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Move animals between camps or pens calmly
• Check animals for illness or injury and report to the manager
• Help the vet with vaccinations and treatments
• Record births, deaths and treatments in the herd book
• Keep water troughs and drinkers working

• Reliable, since animals depend on you
• South African ID or a legal work permit
• Willing to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays on rotation
• Able to live on the farm or close by
• Gentle and patient with animals
• Comfortable around large animals

• Animal health or AgriSETA short course
• Basic farm maintenance skills

• Farm housing on site
• Training in animal health
• Milk or meat rations

• For foreman roles, mention how many workers you supervised and what you were in charge of.
• Say which animals you have worked with and for how long. Farmers want someone who already knows the routine.
