Shift Supervisor (Underground Coal)

This deep-level gold mine near Secunda needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The site is in Secunda; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand

• First aid certificate current
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
