Shift Supervisor (Underground Coal)

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The deep-level gold mine near White River needs your crew leadership. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a deep-level gold mine on the White River side of Mpumalanga. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate

• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• First aid certificate current
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections

• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface

• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
