Shutter Hand (Concrete Formwork)

You'll build it with your hands: walls, floors, roofs and finishes on the school construction project in Kuruman. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll report in Kuruman. Relocation is not covered for this one. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Punctual every morning, even in winter

• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade

• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
