Shutter Hand (Concrete Formwork)

The low-cost housing project in Mamelodi needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll be based at a low-cost housing project in Mamelodi. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish

• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches

• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects

• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Transport from a pick-up point to site

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
