Site Agent (Civil Works) – Fixed-Term

This retail and commercial builder in Lephalale needs someone who can read the drawings and get a building out of the ground. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll be based at a retail and commercial builder in Lephalale. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Order concrete, bricks and steel on time so gangs never stand idle
• Coordinate subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, roofing and glazing
• Plan the week's work from the construction programme and brief the gangs each morning
• Draw up snag lists and close them out before practical completion
• Check workmanship against drawings, specifications and SANS 10400
• Book NHBRC and municipal inspections at the right stages
• Keep the site diary, daily labour returns and plant hours up to date

• At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post
• Good with MS Project or a similar programme tool
• Code 08 licence and your own reliable transport between sites
• National Diploma or BTech in Building or Civil Engineering, or a trade background with site experience
• Firm with labour, fair with subcontractors

• Site accommodation on out-of-town projects

• A common mistake is listing only company names. Say what you built, for example "32 walk-up flats, 3 storeys".
