Site Labourer (Concrete Crew)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a townhouse construction site in Soweto can keep building. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a townhouse construction site on the Soweto side of Gauteng.

• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches

• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Grade 8 or higher
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
