Site Safety Officer (Civil Projects)

You'll keep the site legal and the workers safe for the municipal infrastructure project in Cape Town CBD. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a municipal infrastructure project in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Run site inductions for every new worker and visitor
• Investigate incidents and near misses and report them on time
• Hold toolbox talks on topics that match the week's work
• Prepare monthly safety statistics for the client's agent
• Inspect scaffolds, excavations and edge protection daily
• Compile and maintain the site health and safety file under the Construction Regulations 2014
• Keep appointment letters and competency certificates in the file

• At least 2 years as a safety officer on construction sites
• SAMTRAC or an NQF-accredited health and safety qualification
• Confident enough to stop unsafe work, even when the programme is tight
• First Aid Level 1 at least
• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health and Safety Officer
• You write clear reports in English

• Paid SACPCMP renewal and CPD

• Put your SACPCMP registration number and category first. Many CVs without it are rejected without being read.
• Bring a sample risk assessment or safety file index you drew up (remove client names). It shows your work better than a list.
