Job Description

Behind every good plate at this city hotel kitchen in Fourways is a cook who preps properly, and that could be you. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is in Fourways (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

What you'll actually do

Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.
Bake breads, pastries or desserts for the morning buffet.
Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
Label, date and rotate stock using first-in, first-out.
Receive deliveries, check weights and reject short-dated produce.
Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.

You'll need

Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
You take instruction from the head chef without drama

Nice if you have

Halaal or kosher kitchen experience
Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking
A food safety certificate from a registered training provider
