Job Description

Want to grow as a chef? This city hotel kitchen in Johannesburg CBD gives you real stations and real volume. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Location: Johannesburg CBD, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What you'll actually do

Label, date and rotate stock using first-in, first-out.
Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.
Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
Cook for banquets and conference lunches of 100 to 400 guests.
Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.

You'll need

A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
You take instruction from the head chef without drama
You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP
Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen

Extra points for

Stock and ordering experience on a system such as Micros or Pilot
Pastry or bakery training
